Marian Denise Glipo Basallote and Zatia Denise Danao Gammad, The Makati Science Vision managing editors, participated in the 2008 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Youth Science Summit (AYSS) attended by young scientists from 12 countries at the Traders Hotel, Roxas Boulevard, City of Manila, July 8-10.

With the theme “Power Up for the Future through Science and Technology,” Basallote and Gammad, along with Miss Esperanza Terorbar Sabangan, Makati Science Organic Chemistry teacher, joined the AYSS, which aimed to provide a venue for future leaders to discuss relevant global and scientific issues with the end in view of promoting peaceful agreements among Asean countries.

Organized by the Department of Science and Technology, the science summit oriented the delegates, along with their teachers, in the parliamentary ways of handling problems that affect nations on a regional and a global scale, which focused on specific issues that apply to the youth’s experiences and inclinations.

Parallel sessions were conducted for teachers to learn the effects of computer gaming on the behavior of students and the best practices in using information and communication technology in teaching.
