Makati Science adopts new curriculum

AIMING TO IMPROVE its performance in the National Achievement Test, the Makati Science High School, under the leadership of Dr Divinelinda Estrañero-Dela Cruz, shifted from its special science and technology curriculum to revised engineering and science education curriculum after 15 years of implementation.
According to Dr Dela Cruz, the revised engineering and science education curriculum is implemented in line with the Department of Education’s policy of making curriculum relevant to the needs of the learners.
Filipino, English, mathematics, values education, social studies, science and technology, technology and livelihood education, and mapeh (music, arts, physical education, and health) remained the core subjects in all year levels.
English subjects for each year level include Philippine Literature, Afro-Asian Literature, Anglo-American Literature, and World Literature, while science and technology subjects for each year level include Integrated Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Advanced Physics.
Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, Geometry, and Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry are the mathematics subjects for the first, second, third, and the fourth year levels, respectively.
First year students take Earth and Environmental Science; second year, Research with Technical Writing; third year, Research with Basic Physics; and fourth year, French, Calculus, and Research with Organic Chemistry as additional subjects.
Makati Science students also study English and mathematics of their choice as elective subjects: Developmental Reading or Business Mathematics, first year; Developmental Reading or Trigonometry, second year; Creative Writing or Analytic Geometry, third year; and Journalism and Print Media or Linear Algebra, fourth year.
