Makati Science tops NAT in NCR thrice

FOR THREE CONSECUTIVE school years, the Makati Science High School has toppled all public secondary schools in the National Capital Region (NCR) and ranked first in the 2007, the 2006, and the 2005 National Achievement Tests (NAT) administered by the Department of Education (DepEd) through the National Education Testing and Research Center.

Based on a DepEd-NCR report, the top 10 performing public secondary schools in the region this year are as follows: (1) Makati Science High School, 78.27 percent; (2) Parañaque Science High School, 76.94 percent; (3) Caloocan City Science High School, 75.25 percent; (4) City of Mandaluyong Science High School, 74.74 percent; (5) Muntinlupa Science High School, 74.01 percent; (6) Valenzuela City Science High School, 72.89 percent; (7) Manila Science High School, 72.82 percent; (8) Pasay City West High School, 71.29 percent; (9) Marikina Science High School, 69.91 percent; and (10) Quezon City Science High School, 69.57 percent.

The Makati Science garnered 90.47 percent in mathematics; 84.84 percent, English; 80.69 percent, social studies; 68.41 percent, science; and 66.96 percent, Filipino.

With a mean percentage score (MPS) of 71.57 percent and 73.42 percent, the Makati Science topped the NAT in the region in 2006 and in 2005, respectively.

The City of Makati ranked first in the NAT, garnering an MPS score of 49.89 percent—English, 59.70 percent; social studies, 58.80 percent; Filipino, 53.06 percent; science, 40.67 percent; and mathematics, 37.22 percent.

Designed to measure desired learning competencies, the NAT consists of a battery of tests in English, Filipino, science, mathematics, and social studies.
